Obituary

Wyman R. Thomas, 80, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2007, at his home in Middlebury, VT. He was born on May 31, 1927, in Auburn, MA, the son of Butler and Phoebe (Rawson) Thomas. On June 24, 1950, he married Joyce Goodro in St. Barnabas Chapel in East Middlebury. Wyman served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He graduated from Worcester Polytechnical Institute in Worcester, MA., with an Engineering degree. Upon graduation he worked at General Electric in Lynn, MA. In 1951, he and Joyce moved to Vermont to raise their family. Wyman joined the family business, Goodro Lumber Company which was started by Joyces father, Harry Goodro. He was a co-owner with his brothers-in-law, Rodney Goodro and Pete Perry. Wyman was actively involved in local banking and served as president of the Middlebury Savings and Loan. He was a member of the Middlebury Rotary and other local organizations. Wyman will best be remembered for his love of travel. He was an avid pilot and owned several different airplanes. He spent many happy hours in the air and at the Middlebury State Airport. Wyman and Joyces travels took them to all 50 states, his favorite being Alaska. When he wasnt traveling the United States he could be found fishing on remote lakes in Canada. Wyman is survived by his three sons, Mark and wife Claire of East Middlebury, VT, and their children Reid and wife Tori, Craig and Brent; James and wife Karen, of Reno, Nevada, and their children Kyle, Kieffer, and Seth; Bruce and wife, Laurie, of Shelburne, VT, and their children Megan, Michael and Brian; and daughter, Cindy and her son Greg of East Middlebury. He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce, in 2005 and his brother, Butler. Calling hours will be Monday, August 13 from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. at Sanderson Funeral Home in Middlebury. Funeral services will be held at the East Middlebury Methodist Church on Tuesday, August 14 at noon. Internment will immediately follow at Prospect Cemetery in East Middlebury. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Project Independence, 112 Exchange Street, Middlebury, VT 05753.
