SHOREHAM-William Bill Rader, 93, died peacefully April 13, 2010 at his home in Shoreham after a long battle with Parkinsons Disease.
Born May 11, 1916 in Reading, MA he was the son of the late August C. and Louisa (Ghetti) Rader.
Bill graduated from the University of Maine-Orono campus with a chemical engineering degree.
He served his country in the United Sates Army during WW II.
After military service, he was employed by Pan American Airlines as an engineer in South America.
He later moved to New Jersey where he started his own construction business where he designed and built homes.
He moved to Shoreham in 1953 where he has lived ever since.
Again he started his own business and operated Hands Cove Cottages until the late seventies. In addition he owned and operated 3 Minute Ferry in Orwell and Fort Ti Ferry in Shoreham.
Upon his retirement from the ferries, he launched another business where he planted and operated an apple orchard.
He is survived by his wife Gloria of 66 years, a son William and his wife Rhoda of Shoreham; a son Glenn and his wife Kathy of Bow, NH and a daughter, Marylou and her husband Richard of Vergennes. He leaves eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
There will be no public service.
