RIPTON- William J. Murray, 86, a resident for the past 39 years, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Middlebury.
Born in Middlebury July 16, 1923, he was the son of the late Kenneth J. and Rena (Whittemore) Murray.
Mr. Murray served in the United States Army Air Corps during WW II. He was a member of the American Legion, Middlebury Post #27.
He was a retired carpenter from Middlebury College where he worked for over thirty years.
Surviving family members include his son, William J. Murray II and his wife Tanya of Weston, FL.; four brothers, Kenneth R. Bob Murray and James Murray, both of East Middlebury, John Murray of Germany and Paul Murray of Bristol; five sisters, Molly Flagg of Mesina, NY, Patricia Austin of Vergennes, Nancy Abbott of Bristol, Shirley Dwyer of Bristol and Beverly Duchesne of East Middlebury; two grandchildren, Kaleigh and Nathan Murray, both of Weston, FL; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Helen (Comes) Murray in 1999 and a sister, Elizabeth Smith.
Friends may call Friday from 5-8 PM at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 S. Main St., Middlebury.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home at 11 AM Saturday with the Rev. Gary Lewis officiating.
Burial will follow at Cook Cemetery, Ripton, with military honors being given by Middlebury American Legion, Post # 27.
