William A. Ekroos (Willy) 73, died Friday evening January 22, 2016 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington surrounded by his children. He was born June 16, 1942 in Hartford, CT the son of Tiovo and Jesse (McMurtry) Ekroos Bill worked at Standard Register Company in Middlebury for many years as a Number Machine Specialist. He was a member of the Lions Club of Bristol and the Eagles club in Vergennes and also a longtime friend of Bill W's. Bill started his local A.A. chapter in Bristol he was also involved with the court diversion program in Middlebury. Bill was an accomplished pool player and bowler. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping on Lake Dunmore with his family. Bill had many hobbies from caning chairs, raising rabbits to lawn sales. Bill also enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams Cowboys, Dodgers to N.A.S.C.A.R In recent times he enjoyed putting puzzles together with his daughters. Survivors are his children: Debra and husband Patrick Crowley of Stephens City, VA; Shirley Carter of Middlebury, Tina and husband Chris Scherer of New Haven; Bruce and wife Tina Carter of Starksboro; Lisa Ekroos and significant other Austin Johnson of Brandon, Pamela and husband Loyal Thorpe of Shoreham and William and wife Caroline Ekroos of Salisbury; by his siblings, Raymond Ekroos, Helen Counter and Joseph Ekroos, by his fourteen grandchildren, Sixteen great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his wife Lillian (Carter) Ekroos who died April 27, 2015 and also by his brothers Tiovo and Ralph Ekroos. Visiting hours will be held on Friday January 29, 2016 at 11 A.M. with a memorial service to follow at 12 P.M., at the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, located at 117 south main street, Middlebury.
