William Henry Bertolet 3rd (Bill), 93, of Middlebury, VT, passed away at his residence on Friday, March 10, 2017. He was born August 13, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA the son of William Henry Jr. and Esther Mae (Hardy) Bertolet.
Bill was a graduate of MIT with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He retired in 1989 as President of the family business, Laurel Products Corp. He served in the U.S. Army in the European and Pacific theaters during WWII as well as in Korea during that conflict. Bill had many interests and an insatiable curiosity about history and everything occurring around him. He participated in numerous business and social associations over the years and discovered opera at the Town Hall Theatre. Bill was a member of Richard Vaux Ivanhoe #384 Masonic Lodge in Philadelphia for 68 years. He was an active member of Abington Presbyterian Church in Pennsylvania and served as Business Manager there before moving to Vermont year round. Here he found a special family at the Residence at Otter Creek and the Congregational Church in Middlebury.
Bill and his family have celebrated 57 years on beautiful Lake Dunmore where he enjoyed the environment, engineered improvements, and provided lasting memories to all he touched. He loved fishing the lake as well as testing the waters of the local rivers hoping for that special tale. Bill looked forward to family visits especially his annual birthday bash in August.
Bill is survived by his daughters Linda Pitkin (Bill) of Middlebury, VT, Donna Poseidon of Atlanta, GA, Carol OConnell (Steve Beard) of Berlin, MA, and Beverly Moore (Chris) of Willow Grove, PA; son Allan Bertolet (Joan) of Williston, VT; grandchildren Will Pitkin IV, Katherine Poseidon, Kevin (Sarah), Ryan (Stephanie), Patrick and Michael OConnell, Brandon (Ashley) and Lindsay (Levi Nelson) Moore, Anne (Ethan Mick) and Holly Bertolet; great-grandchildren Kellan and Oliver OConnell, and Christopher and Dawson Moore; sister-in-law Claire Richardson Bennett and beloved nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Roberta (Richardson) Bertolet; sisters Esther Hinchcliff and Mary Jane Clemmer.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 25 at 2 PM at the Congregational Church, Middlebury, VT.
