WERNER W. OTTEN, 77, DeLong Rd., died Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at Porter Memorial Hospital, Middlebury.
Born in Essen, Germany February 2, 1929, he was the son of Wilhelm and Klara (Hausmann) Otten.
He was a United States Navy veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Otten was a butcher for many years, self employed at Corner Cupboard General Store in Whiting, a store which he and his wife operated for several years. Following the sale of the general store, he was employed at Grand Union and Shaws in Middlebury and was presently employed at Grand Union in Brandon.
He enjoyed golf and golfed throughout the state of Vermont. He also enjoyed oil painting , made furniture, and was a handy man.
He was a member of the USS Columbus Veterans Association.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Florence M. (Brinkman) Otten of Cornwall, one daughter, Kathleen H. Johnson and her husband Steven of Clymer, NY; two sons, Richard W. Otten of Boston, MA and Steven W. Otten of Essex, RI; three brothers, Hans Otten of Syracuse, NY, Kurt Otten of Flemington, NJ, and William Otten of Toms River, NJ; one sister, Helen Williams of Panama City, FL; six grandchildren.
Friends may call Friday from 5-8 PM at Sanderson Funeral Services, 115 South Main St., Middlebury. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home at 1:30 PM Saturday with John Appelt of Brandon Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, West Cornwall.
