Obituary

Wayne H. Reeves, 83, a longtime resident, died Friday, February 6, 2015 at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center following a period of declining health. Born in Saugus, MA November 20, 1931, he was the son of the late Bertha (Elmer) Gregory. He moved here in 1961 from Springfield, VT. Wayne was a graduate of Sunapee High School, Sunapee, NH, a graduate of Vermont Police Academy and had his private pilot license. He was initially employed in the production office at Bryant Grinder Co. in Springfield, VT. He served as Vermont State Trooper from 1958 until 1970, often being referred to as the pipe smoking state trooper. He was sales coordinator for Foster Motors from 1970-1972. He was the office manager at Champlain Construction from 1972-1980 and was general manager of Dwire Construction Co from 1983-1990. He also owned and operated Waynes Getty service station in Middlebury from 1980-1983. He was a member of Union Lodge #2 F&AM of Middlebury; the Elks of Springfield was an active member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club. Surviving family members include two daughters, Gail Miller and her husband Bill of Middlebury and Pamela Lafave and her husband Bryan of Salisbury; two half sisters, Glenda Muzzey of Sunapee, NH and Sharon Cunningham of Washington, WV; six grandchildren, Hailey Lafave, Jake Miller, Tim Miller, Ben Miller, Erin Heins and Kristin Mazzeo and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother and step father, Harry Gregory and his wife, Carol Cross Reeves on Feb. 25, 2009. The family would especially like to thank the staff of Helen Porter Healthcare for their tremendous support during Waynes illness. The family will receive friends from 11AM until noon Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 S. Main St. Middlebury. The service will be conducted at 12 noon at the funeral home with Rev. Lucy Pellegrini officiating. Burial will be at a later date Prospect Cemetery, East Middlebury.
