Obituary

TSUMIYO MICKEY RIZNER MIDDLEBURY- Tsumiyo Mickey Rizner, 84, of Creek Rd., passed away February 17, 2007 at Helen Porter Healthcare while recuperating from pneumonia. Born June 13, 1922 in Calamba City, Laguna Province, Republic of the Philippine Islands, she was the daughter of Tomefuji and Hatsuyo Ishita. Her parents owned a hotel and were killed during the Japanese occupation in 1941. She along with her brothers and sister fled to the hills. A younger sibling died in her arms during the ordeal. Living on coconuts and in caves, they were rescued by American Forces and later placed in an orphanage. She was later repatriated to Japan where she met her husband of 53 years, John A. Rizner while they both worked at the United States Army Hospital John and Mickey raised their family through transfers to Aberdeen MD where her son Raymond was born, Osaka, Japan where Michael was born, Fort Riley Kansas and Tachikawa, Japan where Eugene was born. The family moved to Middlebury in 1965 from Fort Riley, KS. Mickey worked for many years in admitting at Porter Hospital until she retired in 1992 at the age of 70. She was active with church activities and enjoyed making wreaths every year, helping with bake sales, and giving rides to other church members. She enjoyed her garden and was always generous to visitors. Family members include her husband John of Middlebury; three sons, Michael Rizner and grandsons Matthew and Everett of Middlebury and Stephen of Swanton and their mother , Nancy Collier of Clarendon, Raymond and his companion, Chloe Cartwright of Crossfield, Alberta, Canada, and Eugene and his companion Rita Easter of Brandon and one sister Azuma Ishita Cleveland of Petaluma, CA. . She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Claro and Toshi Ishita A memorial service will be conducted at 11 AM Friday, February 23, 2007 at Middlebury United Methodist Church.
