Tracy Jill McPhail, age 25, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2011, after a spirited battle with lung cancer. Tracy entered the world in a big hurry on August 19, 1985, in Portland, Maine. While growing up, TJM demonstrated this exuberant and strong independent spirit in everything she did, including jumping on her sisters bed like a trampoline at age 14 months, riding a two-wheeled bike without training wheels at age 4, and dying her hair bright blue as a teenager. Tracy favored an active lifestyle including running, hiking, and snowboarding. She was diagnosed with cancer while training for a half marathon.
Tracy attended schools in Maine and Vermont. Always proud of her hard work ethic, she worked summers during high school as a custodian at Middlebury College beginning at age 14 and during college at Country Home Products. Following graduation from Middlebury High School, TJM spent one year at UMO, then transferred to Champlain College, majoring in International Business. Interested in other cultures and traveling, Tracy spent semesters abroad in Australia and Spain while in high school and college. Following college graduation, she worked as an Associate Buyer and then a Buyer at Goodrich in Vergennes. She continued to work as much as possible even while undergoing chemotherapy treatment. As late as November 2010, she astounded her co-workers by kick-boxing during lunch break. Ask us if were surprised
Tracy leaves behind her parents George and Karen McPhail; sister Betsy and her significant other Marc Donovan; boyfriend Christopher Groman; grandparents Raymond and Gloria Chamard and George and Shirley McPhail; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and four kitties.
Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Tracys Life at Victory Baptist Church in Vergennes on Sunday April 3rd at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Addison County Home Health & Hospice, PO Box 754, Middlebury, Vermont 05753. Tracy donated her body to science to provide clues toward conquering this formidable disease.
