Thomas W. Dederick, 77, died April 15, 2015, at Heritage Commons Residential Care in Ticonderoga. He had family and friends by his side during his final days.
He was an only child born in the Catskills of New York on September 16, 1937. He left his home state for a short time to bring his family to Vermont. He eventually returned to the Adirondacks and spent his remaining years there.
He loved the outdoors! His happiest moments involved open water and a fish pole in his hand. He received great joy from those jobs that allowed him to enjoy the thrill of catching fish. For a number of years he was a fishing guide, a field tester for big Fishing equipment companies as well as a writer chronicling his fishing experiences for the Vermont Outdoors Magazine.
In his younger days the thrill of coon hunting called him out to enjoy the outdoors during those warm fall evenings. Wild game hunting brought him great pleasure. He loved his hunting dogs, and then his black labs during his later years.
In his later years he enjoyed spending time in his vegetable garden and strawberry patch. His gardens were so big he could have fed a community and beyond.
He took pride in being an Army vet! He enjoyed spending time with his fellow members at the American Legion Post #224 in Ticonderoga sharing stories and laughs.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Julie Newsome; daughter, Marie Orr (and her husband, Peter, and son, Travis); son, D. Richard Boise; as well as, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, Virgil Dederick and Catherine Cripps, as well as, his son Daniel Dederick.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, April 25th at 1:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post #224 in Ticonderoga, New York.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home.
