Terence Rumsey Jenkins of Whiting, VT died peacefully on July 9, 2014 at Helen Porter Healthcare Center surrounded by family and friends. Terry was born on August 26, 1925 in Croydon, England. He attended Selhurst School in Croydon and College of London. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Albert and Edith Jenkins, a brother, Alan Derek Jenkins, and his first wife, Gwendolyn Jeanne Laslett Jenkins. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Parmelee, of Whiting, VT and five children: Alan Jenkins and wife, Pamela, of Bristol, VT., Michael Jenkins and wife, Marleen, of Poultney, VT, Ian Jenkins and wife, Joanne, of Pinehurst, NC. , Susan George and husband, Buba, of Phoenix, AZ., Mark Jenkins and partner, Alexandra Rooker, of Florence, VT. He has eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In 1943, Terry volunteered for service in the Royal Army Ordinance Corps and attained the rank of First Lieutenant. After World War II he emigrated to Quebec, Canada. There with this first wife, he raised four children while working for Steel Company of Canada and attending McGill University. He also joined the Canadian Army Reserve where he was responsible for training recruits. He attained the rank of Captain. In 1963, he moved to Vermont to work for Vermont Structural Steel. Later, various positions as a Quality Assurance consultant took him to many building sites throughout Canada and the U.S.
Terry married Marilyn Parmelee in 1982. Their son Mark was born in 1986. After living in Bristol, VT for nineteen years, he retired to Whiting, VT. He was an avid reader, loved to travel, enjoyed fishing, wood-working and volunteering for Visiting Nurses Association. He always had a story to tell (mostly true), which endeared him to all. His quick wit and humor will be missed. We were all blessed and honored to be part of his life.
