IN LOVING MEMORY OF

August 22, 1935 – October 9, 2024
Sue Anne Root passed away on Wednesday 10/09/2024 in Ticonderoga New York. Sue was born in Wellsboro Pennsylvania on August 22, 1935, to Walter and Sarah (Hatherill) Root. She attended high school in Wellsboro PA, and college at Mansfield University in Mansfield PA, where she majored in Education with a minor in Music. Sue especially loved playing the piano and flute.
Sue enjoyed her teaching career at Summit St. School in Essex Junction, Vermont where she taught 5th grade math and English for many years. She was also a lifeguard, water safety instructor, insurance salesperson, and worked in tile and glass manufacturing for 17 years. In retirement she worked with school children again as an educational guide at the Shelburne Museum.
Always a lover of nature, Sue enjoyed hiking, camping, canoeing, hunting, fishing, swimming, skiing, and watching the birds and deer outside her window. She loved all animals, but her favorites were dogs and horses, and she shared her life with many. Her beloved Great Pyrenees Ladybug survives her.
Sue was predeceased by her parents, listed above, and her sister Jeannette Borson of Greentown PA. Sue is survived by her daughter Patricia (and Mike) Miller of Middlebury, VT, daughter Leah (and Steve) Willsey of Starksboro, VT and son William White of Tampa, FL. Grandchildren Peter (and Ashley) Reese of Wellsboro. PA, Joshua Reese and Maria Calderon of Hinesburg. VT, Camila Willsey of Atlanta, GA, and Noah, Sydney, and Ella White of Orange City, FL. She will also be missed by her great grandchildren Emilee and Charlotte, and nieces Julie and Amy. Grandma Sue's huge heart, positive outlook, and bountiful meals will be sorely missed.
A private graveside gathering will be held on a later date. In lieu of a service or flowers, per Sue's request, donations can be made to your local Humane Society.
