Obituary

Rodney Arthur Piper, 84, of Bridport, VT, passed away peacefully Monday, November 11, 2013 at Helen Porter Nursing Home with loving family by his side. Rodney was born in Leicester, VT on June 7, 1929 to George and Stella (Palsa) Piper and received his education in Cornwall and Middlebury. He married Dorothy Berger on October 15, 1949. Rodney and Dorothy built a life together that was centered on their love for family, church, and farming. He is predeceased by wife of 62 years, Dorothy, their son Ronald Piper and his wife Sandra (Shandrow),his brothers Ralph and Paul, and sisters Marjorie Klimas, Barbara Paquette, Dorothy Steele, and Susan Piper. Rodney is survived by his sons, Dennis Piper and wife Janet of Bridport, VT, Kenneth Piper and wife Elaine of Orwell, VT. Daughters Diana and husband Richard Roy of Limerick ME, Marilyn Allen of Colchester, VT, Elaine and husband Emile Paquette of New Haven VT. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, his brother, David and wife Dale Piper of Middlebury VT, and many nieces and nephews. Rodney was a lifelong farmer with dairy farms in Shoreham, Cornwall, and Bridport. In his early thirties, he took a break from farming to work for Polymers Plastics. After twelve years at Polymers, he returned to farming where you could hear him whistling in the barn until his retirement. During his retirement years he downsized but continued to enjoy his passion for farming which included livestock and baling hay for himself and others. He also had many other interests that included woodworking, paint by number pictures, hunting, gardening, and nurturing his many trees. He enjoyed the holidays; always decorating with lights, wreaths, putting up the Christmas star on the garage, and to his families delight-his very detailed Christmas Village. Visiting hours will be Friday, November 15, 2013 from 4-7 pm at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home in Middlebury, VT. Funeral will be Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 10 am at Saint Marys Catholic Church in Middlebury, VT. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery Cornwall, VT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Town Line First Response, PO Box 82 Bridport, VT 05734 or Addison County Home Health and Hospice, PO Box 754 Route 7, Middlebury, VT 05753.
