Obituary

New Haven, VT Robert Paul Sherman, Jr. (86) on Tuesday, July 7th, 2020, Robert was surrounded by his loving family and Addison Countys Home/Hospice family at his home in New Haven, VT. Robert had been a farmer while growing up on his familys farm during the 1950s and later on his two farms. Robert raised prized Registered Holsteins and often showed both cows and bulls at Addison County Field Days and Eastern States in Massachusetts. There he won many blue ribbons and plaques for his prized herd. He retired from farming during the early 2000s. Robert loved spending time with his family (especially, his own children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as his many nieces and nephews). He enjoyed square dancing with his late wife, Sheila, as they were members of the Vergennes Small City Steppers square dance club. Robert was born in New Haven, VT, June 27, 1934, to the late Robert P. Sherman, Sr. and Ethel Farr Sherman. He attended Beeman Academy in New Haven and graduated at the top of his class. Robert went on to marry the love of his life, Sheila J. Holbrook, on August 2, 1969, in Bristol, VT. He spent many cherished hours with his daughter Susan J. Coombs of New Haven; and his son Chris Coombs of Leicester. He was predeceased by his loving son, Andrew; both parents; and his sister Laura Laberge. Besides being survived by Susan and Chris, Robert is survived by his loving sisters, Beverly Mayer (Rael) of New Haven and Barbara Clark of Maine. He will always be remembered affectionately by his grandchildren, Lauren Higbee (Dan Seals), Derek Coombs (Chelsea) and Ryan Coombs as well as his great-grandchildren Henry, Tillien, and Holden. Robert will be warmheartedly remembered by several nieces, nephews, and friends. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 11th, 2020 in the Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only immediate family are invited. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the New Haven Fire Department, 1839 Main St./P.O. Box 120, New Haven, VT 05472, attention: Alan Mayer Chief. Arrangements are made under the direction of Sanderson-Ducharme funeral home.
