ROBERT SARGENT
MIDDLEBURY- Robert A. Sargent, 67, died July 25, 2011 at his home after a period of failing health.
Born in Middlebury May 28, 1944, he was the son of the late Rudolph M. and Helen (Cook) Sargent.
Bob lived in Middlebury most of his life and was a graduate of Middlebury High School, class of 1962. In high school he was an avid basketball player, and continued to do so as an adult. He loved all sporting events, especially basketball and his favorite baseball team, the Yankees.
He served in the Army National Guard. He served in Viet Nam and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
In the recent years he enjoyed going and encouraging his granddaughter at sporting events. He had a profound love for farming, having spent his youth and early adulthood on a farm owned by his father and later his own farm in Whiting.
He was a press operator for Standard Register for over twenty years. More recently he delivered parts for Sanel Auto Parts. He enjoyed socializing at each of the locations on his route.
Bob was a member of Libanus Lodge #47 A&FM of Bristol, a Shriner with the Cairo mini monster unit, the American Legion, Post #27 of Middlebury, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving family members include two daughters, Lisa S. Dupoise and her husband Stephen of New Haven and Melissa A. Bush and her husband Jason of Mineville, NY; three brothers, Ralph B. Sargent of Essex Junction, Gilbert R. Wideawake of Rutland, Randall L. Sargent of Richmond; four sisters, Constance A. Sargent of Corning, NY, Emily A. Wideawake of Brandon, Carol L. Allen of Ferrisburgh and Christine M. Supernaw of Frankford, Del.; two grandchildren, Angela Dupoise and Collin Dupoise.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Richard R. Sargent.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 5-8 PM at the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 S. Main St., Middlebury. The Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 PM Friday at The Libanus Lodge, 2 Elm St., Bristol. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Cornwall where Middlebury American Legion, Post #27 will provide military honors. www.sandersonfuneralservice.com.
