Middlebury, VT Robert W. Leggett Robert William Leggett passed from this life on Friday, August 4, 2006. Born the second of seven children to Robert J. and Anita B. (Stowe) Leggett, Bob lived his full 77 years in Middlebury. After high school, Bob worked as a utility lineman for his uncle Frank Tucker and then served in the U.S. Army as an electrician from 1948 to 1950. Upon discharge from the army, he took over the operation of his father's dairy farm on Washington Street Extension before beginning work for Rogers Fuels as a truck driver in 1963 until his retirement in 1991. Bob was an avid sportsman. Bowling, ice fishing and playing in the Middlebury men's softball league with his sons, Robbie and Crocky, were special pleasures. He equally enjoyed hunting with his sons, sons-in-law and grandsons from a family-owned camp in the woods east of the Middlebury airport and traveled for several years to visit his daughter Judy's family in Montana in successful search of the wily whitetail. He also loved to play horseshoes and hosted many a Friday night game in his back yard. He was a faithful member of the American Legion Post No. 27 in Middlebury. Bob leaves his wife of 55 years, Janet (Malzac); three daughters, Carolyn Perine, her husband Ken and children, Chandler, Jennifer, Kristi and Kate; Jane Roy, her husband Eugene and children, Wesley and Jesse; Judy Whitney, her husband Tim and children, Kelsie and Luke; two sons, Robbie, his wife Joanne and children, Jody and Willie; and David (Crocky), his wife Sue and children, Casey and Heath. Also surviving are his sisters, Shirley Lamothe and Jean Payne, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, George and Frank, and sisters, Helen and Charlotte. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church in Middlebury on Thursday, August 10 at 11:30 a.m. Father Justin Baker will preside. Calling hours will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9 at Sanderson Funeral Home in Middlebury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Addison County Home Health and Hospice or Friends of Middlebury Football Food Booth and Bleacher Fund c/o Leonard Barrett, East Street, Bridport, VT 05734.
