Robert W. Kellogg, 95, died in a house fire in his home on December 14, 2016just five days shy of his 96th birthday.
He was born December 18, 1920 in Katonah, NY, the son of William R. and Ethel (Green) Kellogg.
After graduating Katonah High School, he went to Middlebury College. Still in his freshman year, at the outbreak of W.W. II, he enlisted in the army, and served in the Signal Corps in England, as a radar specialist. Thereafter, he maintained close ties with an English family in Chesham that befriended him.
Returning to Middlebury after the war, he finished his bachelors degree. There he met his lifes partner, Marya Steele. He taught in several NY school districts before retiring as a guidance counselor in York Town Heights.
He and his wife moved to Middlebury in the 1980s, where they were very active at the Sheldon Museum. They sang in several local choirs. Always gregarious and social, Robert also acted as a college tour guide.
He belonged to the Unitarian Universalist Society in Middlebury. Robert skied into his 90s. An avid student of history and genealogy, he authored two family-related booksone about his grandfather, and one about his wifes grandfather, a civil war veteran who left behind many battlefield letters.
Survivors are his three sons, Christon Steele Kellogg and wife Helen of Madison, NJ, Hollis Abbott Kellogg of Beacon, NY and Bradford Halstead Kellogg and wife Svetlana of Chelsea, MA., by his two grandsons, Jason Nathaniel Kellogg and wife Daniella of Washington, D.C. and Ethan Sebastian Kellogg of Middlebury. Also by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and by his siblings, Douglas and David.
There will be no service at this time. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
