SALISBURY-
Lt. Col. Robert A. Juneo (Ret. USAF) died suddenly at the age of 75, Monday evening, August 18, 2008, in his home at Lake Dunmore, Salisbury, VT. Bob was born in Duluth, MN, son of the late Robert and Mildred Juneo of Duluth, MN.
He graduated from the University of Minnesota, at Duluth in 1956 where he was commissioned as an officer in the AF-ROTC. He served at various duty stations around the US and abroad. Most notably when he was at the headquarters USAF Weisbaden, Germany he met his future wife Shirley Whitney Juneo, who was a teacher for the Air Force dependents. They were married in Baldwin, LI, NY, and from there went to Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, TX where he served for the AF Security Service. They were there for 6 years and it was there that their lovely daughter Jennifer Lynn Juneo (now Mullen) was born. Their next assignment was to Karamursel, Turkey where Robert was Base Comptroller and his wife resumed teaching for the DOD. While serving in Turkey, Bob received his MBA from the University of Arkansas. Upon arriving back in the USA, Bob was assigned to Andrews AFB in Maryland where he was at headquarters preparing the AF budget.
He retired from the AF in 1978 after serving 22 years. He and his family lived in the DC area (Springfield, VA) for 15 years where he had numerous jobs with the Federal contractors, most notably he worked for Ross Perot at EDS.
Bob and his wife moved to Lake Dunmore in 1989 to a property they acquired in 1985 (the site of the old Lake Dunmore Hotel, which became the North 40. Bob often commented how much he loved this place- just like paradise. hed say and he was so happy here.
In 1996, Bob and his wife vacationed to Venice, FL and before they returned to Vermont they bought a condo. From then on they spent 6 months in Vermont and 6 months in Florida- the best of both worlds.
Bob is survived by his wife- Shirley; daughter Jenny Mullen, son-in-law, Mike Mullen, and precious granddaughter- Whitney Mullen of Potomac Falls, VA; sister, Nancy Lahti and brother-in-law Ken Lahti of Duluth, MN. He also leaves 9 sister-in-law, brother-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews from various parts of the country.
Bob was known for his sense of humor, active wit, storehouse of jokes and stories and he was never at a loss for words.
While stationed in San Angelo, TX, Bob was active with Kiwanis and became Kiwaniian of the Year in 1971. He was a member of Neshobe Golf Club,F & AM Free and Accepted Masons, Gyros the Tuesday Lunch Bunch at Middlebury Golf Course, TROA., and Grace United Methodist Church in Venice, FL.
In Lieu of flowers, donations in Bobs memory may be sent to Middlebury Hospice, the Air Force Memorial Association, or the Middlebury Voluntary Ambulance Association.
A memorial service will be held at the Salisbury Congregational Church on Monday, August 25, at 2 PM with reception to follow.
Burial will be at a later date in the West Salisbury Cemetery.
