Robert W. Brisson, 91, died on April 16, 2016 at his home after a long and fulfilled life. Born the second oldest of 8 children to Wilfred and Laura (Yandow) Brisson on November 5, 1924, he spent his early years on the family farm in Shoreham then joined the Army and served in World War II in Germany. After returning home, he met, courted and then married Doris Wimett in 1953. They farmed for the next 37 years while raising their family.
Over his lifetime in Shoreham, Bobs most important roles were those of a model citizen and a dedicated family man. While operating a successful dairy farm, he still made time to serve the Town of Shoreham as Selectman and was a founding father of the Shoreham Volunteer Fire Department, jokingly known as the Shoreham Cellar Savers at the time. Bob was a lifelong member of St. Genevieves Catholic Church, beginning as an altar server in his youth. As a retired farmer, he served for many years as a town lister, but, most importantly, he took the lead role as Grandpa, Pop Pop, and Dee Dee.
Bob joins Doris, his wife of 59 years, his sisters Marion Provost and Eleanor Farman, and his brother Eugene Brisson. He is loved and remembered by his children, Connie Carroll and husband David, Neil Brisson and wife Meg, and Randall Brisson and wife Kathleen; his grandchildren, Alicia, Katrina, Tad, Sam, Nate, Ben, Kit, and Jack; his five lively great-grand girls; his siblings, Lorraine, Thelma, Armond and Mary Esther; and his many extended family members.
Bobs generous nature, sense of humor and easy smile put people at ease. His stories, jokes, tall tales, ditties and sayings will live on in the hearts of the family and friends that love him.
The family thanks the several tender, selfless caregivers and hospice nurses that helped him. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bobs name to the Addison County Home Health and Hospice at P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00am on Friday, April 22, 2016 at St. Genevieves Catholic Church in Shoreham with graveside committal immediately following.
