Obituary

Bristol, VT Richard l. Fowler Richard L. Fowler passed in his sleep early Saturday morning January 19, 2013 at Porter Hospital, Middlebury after a heroic battle with pneumonia at age 92. He was born April 3, 1920 in Canton, MA and later moved to Stoughton, MA. Richard served with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) at Fort Devens, MA on the fire and logging crews from the late 30's until joining the Army Air Corps. From 1942-1945 he served as an airplane and engine mechanic and crew chief at Chanute Field, IL. In the late '40's he met and married Jessie Low and they moved to Randolph, VT to begin their family. On Randolph Avenue they raised sons Ken and Duane, and daughter Janet. Richard worked as a electrician for Lee Flint, did small engine repair, and was the projectionist at the Randolph Playhouse movie theater with wife Jessie. In 1965 the family moved to East Middlebury, VT when Richard joined the Electrical Department of Middlebury College. He retired in the '80s and continued to live in East Middlebury and later Orwell, VT. He spent his last years within the loving care of Robin Gorton and extended family of Bristol, VT. His family continues as son Duane and wife Cathy Fowler and grandkids Duncan and Hope of East Middlebury, VT, ; daughter Janet and husband Joseph Dumas of Gadsden, AL, granddaughters; Kari and husband Larry Ashcroft of Greenwich, NY and Kelly Bessette of Glencoe, AL. one brother Clifford and wife Amy live in Stoughton, MA. He is predeceased by wife Jessie, son Kenneth, brothers Harold and Donald. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday January 23, 2013 at 1 P.M. at the Middlebury Congregational Church. The Rev. Andrew Nagy-Benson will officiate. Family and friends may call on Tuesday evening January 22, 2013 from 5-7 P.M. at the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 South Main Street, Middlebury.
