PHILLIP HARDWAY,SR.
MIDDLEBURY-Phillip F. Hardway, 67 of Monarch Court, died Friday, October 24, 2008 at his home following a period of failing health.
Born October 5, 1941 in Dailey, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Forest P. and Olive F. (Butcher) Hardway. He attended school in Dailey in his earlier years and North Troy High School in Troy, VT. In 1985 he graduated with his son, earning his adult diploma from Middlebury High School.
Phil honorably served in the United States Army and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Initially he was employed at various jobs in Rutland. He retired in 2003 after 24 years of service with Simmons Precision/ Goodrich of Vergennes.
Phil was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the Vergennes Eagles Club.
Family members include his wife of 45 years, Anna (Gilman) Hardway of Middlebury; one son, Phillip F. Hardway, Jr. of Salisbury; two daughters, Tammy Willson and her husband Steve of East Middlebury and Helen Warner and her husband Bob of Ferrisburgh; two sisters, Jean O. Butcher of Richmond, VA and Bethel Fleming from Bethel, VT; two grandchildren, Jon Willson and Brianna Willson ; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Donald Hardway and Bernard Hardway and one sister Grace White.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday from 5-7 PM at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 S. Main St., Middlebury. Services will be conducted at 12:30 PM Friday at Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, Randolph, with military honors to follow at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans or to the American Diabetes Association.
