Peter Gordon Halstead, of Chatsworth, California, died peacefully on January 31, 2025, in Cornwall (VT) with his sister, Janet Halstead Franklin, by his side. The son of the late D. Gordon and Virginia Carpenter Halstead, Peter was born in Stamford, Connecticut, on June 14, 1948. A graduate of Stamford (CT) High School, Peter earned a BS degree in mechanical engineering from Lafayette College in 1970.

After graduation, Peter worked for Westinghouse in their desalination division. He later moved to the Los Angeles area, where he was a project manager and senior technician in the HVAC construction industry.

While Peter struggled with many demons, everywhere he went people around him loved and cared deeply for him. His beautiful smile never left him. Intensely analytical, Peter took great pride in solving complex problems of all kinds.

He is survived by his sister, Janet Halstead Franklin and her husband, Churchill Franklin of Cornwall, nephew Chip Franklin (Hannah) of Newton, MA and their 5 children, and nieces Katie Franklin Cohn (Tim) of Jackson, WY and Lindsey Franklin (Kevin Dillon) of Richmond, VA. There will be a graveside memorial for Peter in the spring in Middlebury.
