PETER DEVRIES ADDISON- Peter DeVries, 73, a longtime resident, went to be with the Lord Friday, October 26, 2012 at Our House Residential Care Home, Rutland, following a long illness. Born in Hollum, the Netherlands July 15, 1939, he was the son of the late Samuel and Grace (Vanhuizen) DeVries. Peter and his wife Linda moved here in 1969 from Middletown, NY and have operated DeVries Dairydale Farm for many years. The family continues to operate the farm. He was a member of the New Haven United Reformed Church and the Gideons International. Peter loved working the land and often would have one of his beloved grandchildren in the tractor with him. He had a genuine love for the Lord, a love that overflowed into everyone around him. He was a wonderful husband and loving father who filled his home with lots of laughter. Surviving family members include his wife of 43 years, Clara L. Linda DeVries of Addison; three sons, Daniel P. DeVries of Addison, Samuel H. DeVries and his wife Alisa of Addison, and David W. DeVries and his wife Julia of Addison; one daughter, Jodie L. Roorda and her husband, Richard of Addison; one brother, Henry DeVries of Middletown, NY; one sister, Della Roorda of Whiting; and 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by four sisters, Anneka Zylstra, Theresa Roorda, Tilly DeVries and Alice VanWieren. Relatives and friends 5-8 PM Tuesday at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 South Main St., Middlebury. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 AM Wednesday at New Haven United Reformed Church with the Rev. Jeremy Veldman, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery, Vergennes.
