Paul T Robinson Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on Lotsawater Road in Salisbury, VT on June 14, 2006. He was at once 77 and 154 years old.
He was born the seventh child of Dr. Richard and Sarah (Byrne) Robinson on November 7, 1928, in Laconia, NH., yet his birth certificate dated his arrival as November 9, a detail which he worked to his advantage celebrating his two birthdays each year.
Paul attended St. Johns in Laconia as well as Laconia High School until he entered the Navy at the age of 17. He served for two years.
Upon his departure from the service, he enrolled in Tilton Prep and later graduated from Saint Francis of Xavier in Antigonish, Nova Scotia where he studied philosophy and theology. Paul understood God, and carried a devout relationship with his Maker throughout all of his days.
He married Marilyn Webster Hall on December 14, 1956 in Laconia. To this day, he would say it was the best decision he ever made.
Paul and Marilyn started their family in Laconia. In 1963, they moved to Salisbury where they have made their home since then, raising their many children.
Pauls inborn respect for all made him a natural success as he pursued a career working with people from all walks of life. Always interested in new adventures, the book of his life contained many chapters. As a young man he was a restaurateur. He then worked for Pike Industries for a number of years before owning and operating his own business, Robinson Treescaping & Security Fence where he had the pleasure of working with many fine young men, whose lives were enriched by Pauls humor, strong work ethic and ever-conveniently located three eldest daughters, Peggy, Pam and Mary! He later pursued a life on the road, buying an 18-wheeler which took him to 48 of the 50 states. Before his retirement in 1990, he worked in property management for J.P. Carrara & Sons. Perhaps his most rewarding endeavor was one which he shared with Marilyn, providing a loving home to people throughout the state as a foster parent and respite home provider.
Pauls last several years brought him time to enjoy the richness that his many years of love, hard work and dedication created. His special connection with his dogs Toshua, Max and Faith, brought him joy and understanding while his interest in painting, carving and
birds brought their own daily rewards.
Through it all, he was all about his family. Paul always said that his children were his wealth, a status which they have all assumed with a great deal of pride. His kids were also his greatest legacy.
He wanted them around all the time.
One never wondered just what was on Pauls mind. He was a straight shooter with his wife, his children and all who had the pleasure of crossing his path. Certainly it was this quality that endeared him to his friends at the Salisbury Landfill, Rosies Restaurant, his places of employment and his large family. No doubt, mind you, his straightforward approach sometimes led him into trouble, but it was also his saving grace when it came time to make right whatever had gone wrong. He was as kind as he was cantankerous, as forgiving as he was forgiven.
Paul will be forever loved by his family: his wife, Marilyn, whose uncompromising love, patience and support have kept him grounded all of these years, and his many children: Nancy Hood; Peg Myhre and her husband John and children Tucker Pam Martin and her husband Gudge and children Eric and Tylor Highter & Tyler Martin; Mary Johannson and her husband Steve and children Katie & Thea Merkel; Walter Robinson and his wife Pam and children Zachary, Dillon & Austin; Ultima Danforth and her husband Woody and children Willy, Ida Mae Paul Robinson Jr. and his partner Jeanine Maggio and children Andre, Lance & Mikayla; Bernard Robinson and his wife Vickie and children Marilyn & Priscilla; Sara Robinson and her partner John Hart; Una Cronin and her husband Ralph and their son Jett; Abraham Robinson and his wife Jodie and their daughter Anna; Amos Robinson and his wife Karen; Toby Robinson and his partner Sarah Lathrop; Amber & John with whom he shared his home and heart for many years; his sister, Sarah Bernadine Therese; and his brother, Dick; and his four-legged friends, Hope and Faith.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers Bill, Bernard and Frank; his sisters Margaret Mary, Betty and Ultima, and Amanda New, who shared Paul and Marilyns life and home for a number of years.
His family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. George Fjeld and his entire staff for their many years of professional support and genuine care while looking after Paul. They also express their thanks to all of those at Addison County Home Health & Hospice, Porter Hospital and Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral to celebrate his life will be held at St. Marys Parish in Middlebury on Saturday, June 17 at 11:00 A.M.
Memorial contributions may be made to Addison County Home Health & Hospice, Inc., P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.
