Paul Emile Mayer, 90, of Middlebury, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 21, 2016. He was born March 18, 1926 in Casselman, Ontario, Canada, one of 10 children of Edmond and Elie-Anna Bourbonnais Mayer.
After coming to the United States when he was 3 years old, he attended schools in Cornwall, Bridport and Shoreham.
Paul married Genevieve James in June of 1950 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Middlebury.
Paul graduated from culinary school while in the US Army, 601st Triple A Artillery at Fort Meade, Maryland. He worked at Simmonds Precision Products in Vergennes from 1956 to 1971. He was then employed by Vermont Marble Company as a Power House Operator for the New Haven and Weybridge power plants. He remained working there for 18 years until his retirement in 1989. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Paul was predeceased by his wife, Genevieve, brothers Fernand and Rene Mayer; sister, Jeanette Mayer and a grandson, Brian Mayer.
He is survived by his son, Paul J. Mayer, daughter, Paula Mayer and companion, Phillip Williams, all of Middlebury. Grandchildren, Kami Pepe, Darci Mayer, Merina Bigos and Elesha Larrow. Great-grandsons, Ryan and Nolan Pepe, Colby Bigos and Bryan Norton.
Additional survivors include his siblings, Peggy St. George, Pauline Welch, Lucille Smith, Jeanne Ciemniewski, Rael Mayer and wife, Beverly and Raymond Mayer and wife, Veronica. Several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will he held at St. Genevieves Cemetery in Shoreham, Vermont on Saturday, May 28th at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorial contributions in Pauls memory may be made to Middlebury Regional Emergency Medical Services, 55 Collins Drive, Middlebury, VT 05753.
