Obituary

SHELBURNE Patricia Ann Murray Brooks, 72, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, October 8th, 2016. Patricia was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, on September 8th, 1944, the daughter of James C. and Mary Agnes (Metzger) Murray. She graduated from Copenhagen Central School, obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Nazareth College in Rochester, New York and a Master of Science degree from C.W. Post Center of Long Island University. She worked as an employment counselor for 22 years with the New York State Department of Labor in Gloversville, New York. Prior to that she was a Placement Specialist at Lexington Center, in Johnstown, New York. She was an active member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Vergennes, Vermont, where she was a member of the St. Ann's society as well as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of both the Addison County and Vermont Right to Life committees, and held the position of president of the Addison chapter for seven years. She was also a member of the New York State Association of Employment Counselors. She is survived by her son Matthew David Brooks, his wife Keila, and their three children Valeria, Mia and Mattie, who reside in Virginia; her daughter Michaela Brooks Whitman, her husband Patrick and their four children Ella, Hunter, Chase, and Harrison Whitman, of Shelburne, Vermont. She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved spouse David Brooks who died on July 15th 2015, and their daughter Maria Chantel Brooks. Patricia is also survived by four siblings. Her brothers James J. Murray, and Peter J. Murray, and sisters Mary Pamela Wojtowicz, and Kerry Suzanne Sise. She will also be greatly missed by her "summer son" Francisco Calderon of Albany, her nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends from St. Peter's Church in Vergennes, and the Addison County and Vermont Right to Life Committees. She enjoyed spending time with her family; being a cheerleader at her childrens and grandchildrens sporting events, traveling, attending the annual March for Life in Washington, DC and was a lifelong fan of Notre Dame University sports. She also enjoyed visiting with friends and family regularly. She was an extraordinary big sister, always looking out for her younger siblings and she never forgot a birthday or special event. Those who knew her remember her welcoming smile, unconditional love, immense faith in God, and commitment to defending the rights of the unborn. Some of her greatest virtues were her kindness, hospitality, and patience. A prayer service will be held at Sanderson- Ducharme funeral home in Middlebury, VT on Tuesday, October 11th from 4-6PM. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 12th at 11 A.M. at St. Peters Catholic Church in Vergennes, VT. The Reverend Yvon Royer will be the celebrant. Graveside services will be held in Broadalbin, NY at the Union Mills cemetery on Friday, October 14th at 12 P.M.
