Obituary

Salisbury, VT Norman E. Fisher Norman E. Fisher, 92, of Salisbury died Friday, July 28, 2006 at Helen Porter Nursing Home, succumbing to the ravages of a severe stroke suffered over ten years ago. Norman was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 4, 1913 to Clarence and Annie Fisher. He grew up in Rutherford, New Jersey, and later lived in Clifton, New Jersey until his retirement and moved to Salisbury. Upon graduation from high school Norm went to work as an analytical chemist for Esso, (later Exxon) while studying nights at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. He started at the Esso refinery in Bayonne, NJ, where his co-workers gave him the nickname Wimpy because of the bizarre lunches he often brought to work. He spent his entire working career with the Exxon Research and Engineering Co. retiring from the Exxon Research Center in Linden, NJ. On April 26, 1939 Norman married the love of his life; Dorothy May Burk, in Passaic, New Jersey, and began a lifetime of 67 years together. In addition to his family, the other loves of Normans life were his home in Salisbury, and reading from his large collection of books about almost any subject imaginable. In retirement, Norm and Dorothy spent many years traveling to many different countries, and Norm was active with his bowling and bridge groups, and enjoyed designing and building his dream library. Norm also served the Town of Salisbury as Auditor and Lister and he also served on the Shard Villa Board of Directors. Norman is survived by his wife Dorothy, and by three children, a son Allan and his wife Wendy, of Essex Junction, VT a son, Norman and his wife Jean, of Teaneck, NJ and a daughter Catherine, of Niskayuna, NY. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Courtney Fisher and Jordan Fisher, and by a nephew, Kenneth Fisher. He was predeceased by a brother, Winthrop. The family would like to thank the staffs of Helen Porter Nursing Home, and of Porter Hospital , as well as Drs Smith & Holmes, of Cedar Ledge Family Practice for all the care they gave Dad over the years. A special thank you goes to Robin Jackson and her people who cared for Dad at home. As Dad had requested, there will be no visiting hours or services.
