Obituary

Norbert "Nub" Duclos came to rest peacefully on January 9, 2009. He was born June 18, 1921 in Lincoln Vt., the son of the late Victor and Maude (Liberty) Duclos. After completing his education from Lincoln elementary and Bristol High school, Sgt. Duclos served his country during WWII as a soldier in the United States Army 8th Armored Div. His name is listed honorably on the WWII veterans memorial in Washington D.C. and the Veterans Park in Bristol Vt. Being born the son of a blacksmith, Nub's exceptional talent for working with metal came to him naturally. One of his favorite pastimes was fashioning anything imaginable for old barn door hinges and horseshoes. His occupations ranged from and included auto mechanic, truck and heavy equipment operator, professional welder and finally retiring after 17 years as maintenance technician for the Middlebury College Snow Bowl. Nub was a life member of the Middlebury Fire Department after serving for 63 years, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #49, the V.F.W. Post #7823 and was a proud and upstanding board member of the Mahogany Ridge club. Nub loved anything outdoors. His interests included being an avid and successful hunter, fisherman, and racing fan. He enjoyed camping and snowmobiling and spending time with family and friends. Nub is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma of Middlebury, his son John Duclos and wife Joyce and their children, Kristi Lafayette, Kasey Trujillo, Jesse LaFayette and Karly LaFayette. His daughter Amy Quesnel and her husband Lorenzo, and their children Kylie, Kristin and Jed Quesnel all of Shoreham. Also special to Nub was Joe Ekroos and his wife Beth. Nub also leaves his sister Beatrice Booth of new London Connecticul, his brother Ronan Duclos of Shelburne, one brother in-law and several sister in-laws, nieces and nephews. He sill be missed by many close friends.. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Paris "Bill" Duclos, Stanton "Sam" Duclos and his sister Thelma Sharrow. Visiting hours will be held on Monday January 12, 2009 from 5pm to 8pm at Sanderson_Ducharme funeral home at 117 South Main St. Middlebury, Vt. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday January 13, 2009 at 11 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Middlebury with the Rev. William Beaudin as Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Battell Hose Co. care of Middlebury Fire Department at Seymour St. Middlebury, Vermont. 05753.
