Obituary

Monica Reed, Rutland City Monica Rose Brown Reed, 79, of Rutland, died peacefully on Mothers Day, Sunday, May 14, 2023 at Helen Porter Rehab in Middlebury after a courageous lifelong battle with kidney disease. She was born on August 3rd, 1943, one of six siblings to Mildred "Mickey" Stewart Brown and John Brown. She graduated from Mount Saint Joseph Academy of Rutland in 1961. She married in 1962 to Ronald "Ronnie" Reed of Rutland where they resided until his death in 2000, from which she never remarried. She spent her early adulthood raising her three children, Robin, Renee, and Robert "Robbie." Later in life, she used her passion for travel to become a travel agent and help provide for her family. She loved to gather with her family and group of lifelong friends to eat, gamble or just chat. She was up for any adventure and excuse to travel. She was a shining example of determination, stoicism, tenacity, and fierce independence-never even learning how to drive. A true warrior, she endured dialysis for 20 years just so that the rest of her time could be enjoyed to the fullest extent with the people she loved. Monica is survived by her sister Colleen Natale of Rutland; her three children, Robin Reed-Cameron of Clarendon; Robert Reed of Rutland; and Renee Young and husband Michael of Rutland Town; and two grandchildren whom she loved with her whole heart--Brian Michael Young and partner Kelsey Gecha of Rutland, and Kayla Rose Scott and husband Wesley Scott of Rutland. Also survived by Erin and Carren Cameron. She had many nieces, nephews, and cousins who were like family to her. Monica was predeceased by both her parents, as well as her husband, Ronnie; her brothers , Gordon "Gordy" Brown, Richard "Dick" Brown, and Gerald "Jerry" Brown; her sister, Marilyn "Mimi" Greene; and her son-in-law, Stephen Cameron. A special thank you to her lifelong friends: Jim, Judy, Pam, Bunny, Karla, Ron and Tony. A special thank you to her dialysis nurses over the years whom she spoke about often and lovingly, as well as the staff and nurses at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington and the hospice nurses at Helen Porter Rehab in Middlebury for taking great care of her in her final days. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 21st, 2023 from 4:00p 6:00p at the Rutland Country Club. Memorial donations may be made to Rutland County Humane Society at 765 Stevens Road, Pittsford, VT. Arrangements under the direction of Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, Middlebury, VT
