SALISBURY- Mitchell Keros, 88, died Thursday, May 22, 2008 in the loving arms of his family.
Born September 4, 1919 in Wilbraham, MA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Probycian) Keroski.
He was a graduate from Springfield Trade School, Springfield, MA and Rutland Business College.
He honorably served in the United Sates Navy for five years on Destroyer Escort Petit #253 during WWII. He was a Fireman First Class and served in the European Theater of Operations in England and Northern Ireland and the African Theater. He was recipient of the Medal of Honor, Victory Metal ETO Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was wounded in combat in the European Theater of War and was recipient of the Disabled American Veteran Medal.
He worked for Middlebury Post Office as a carrier for thirty years.
He loved music, particularly dance music. He and his wife followed the name bands during WWII.
His greatest love was the Boston Red Sox and he enjoyed going to see the Red Sox play.
A kind and gentle man, he loved his family and his grandchildren, animals, especially his Persian cat Minka and all animals that have gone before him. He enjoyed Trivia and was very astute at questions and answers.
His many friends will miss him at Elderly Services where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his many friends there everyday.
He was a member of St. Stephen Episcopal Church, American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans, and USS Pettit Association.
He was loved by many and with heartfelt love do we say goodbye to a very fine man.
Family members include his wife of 65 years, Mary Blaise-Bourgeois Keros of Salisbury; a daughter, Gail and her husband Joel Aroeste of Albany, NY; his granddaughter Rachelle Aroeste-Sweer ; his grandson, Adam ; a beloved niece Helen and her husband Dana Ham of Wilbraham, MA .
A private memorial service will take place at a later date.
