MIDDLEBURY-Mary Virginia Stricher Weldon , age 85, died on February 19, 2012, at Porter Hospital after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family.
Born January 7, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Violet (Neibling) Stricher. She was an avid knitter and enjoyed making many hats and gloves for her family & friends. She and her husband traveled extensively before retiring to Vermont. She worked at the New York State Psychiatric Hospital in Central Islip, New York, before making the move to Vermont. She then returned to the work force and worked at Porter Hospital in the dietary department for many years.
She was a member of St Marys Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters Court Assumption #2009, Middlebury, VT.
On December 19, 1943, she married her childhood sweetheart, James Weldon. They were married for 67 years. Together they have 6 children, Brian and his wife, Marilyn, of Holtsville, NY, Richard and his wife, Karen, of Brandon, VT, John of Holbrook, NY, Ronald and his fiance, Donna, of Medford, NY, Priscilla Weldon Hurteau and her husband, Rick, of Middlebury, VT, and Colleen Weldon Davis of Brandon, VT. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren. Brian, Jr, Timothy, & Jeanette (DiPaola) Weldon; James, Richard II, & Sara Weldon; John, Jr. & Kevin Weldon; Ronald, Jr. & Michael Weldon; James, Patrick, & Caitlin Hurteau, & Jessica (Davis) Bryant. She is also survived by a sister Jackie Stricher Ferrone of Georgia and a special cousin Janyce Lauer of Montreal Canada. She is survived by 14 great grandchildren and many nephews & nieces.
She was predeceased by her husband Jim, the love of her life, on September24, 2011.
The family would like to thank the staff at Porter Hospital for their service and unending hours of care and compassion to our mother.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, February 23, 2012 from 4-7 PM at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 S. Main Street, Middlebury.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, February 24, 2012 at 10 AM at St. Marys Church, College Street, Middlebury with the Rev. William R. Beaudin, pastor, as celebrant.
