Mary Phelps Watts, age 97, died in the care of her family and Addison County Home Health & Hospice, June 14, 2006.
Daughter of Olivia Smith of Jersey Shore, PA and Lancelot Phelps of Winsted, CT, she was born on May 24, 1909 in Utica, NY.
She graduated from Kingston (NY) High School and attended Wheaton College and the University of Pittsburg. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Cazenovia, NY and spent many years in volunteer work for the chruch and the Cazenovia Public Library.
She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, John M. Watts, her daughter Olivia S. Corning, and a grandson, David W. Corning. She is survived by her son John M. Watts Jr. and his wife Judy of Cornwall, VT; son-in-law Judge Peter E. Corning, of Auburn, NY; grandchildren, Peter S. Corning, John T. Corning, R. Judson Watts, and Alexis S. Watts; and a great-granddaughter, Victoria Corning.
A private graveside service will be conducted at Montrepose Cemetery in Kingston, NY.
