Bridport, VT Marvin Ernest Payne
Marvin Marv Ernest Payne 75, died Tuesday evening September 24, 2013 in Billings, MT after a brief illness with his loving children at his side.
He was born May 29, 1938 in Middlebury the son of the late John Aldis Payne and Marian (Shaw) Payne.
Marvin attended Middlebury High School , joined the United States Army in 1956, served in Germany and returned to Middlebury in 1959.
Marvin initially was self employed as a farmer and had also worked at Blue Seal Feed Co., was the former manager at County Tire, and J.P. Carrara & Sons Inc. as cement truck driver.
He was a member of the V.F.W., Post 7823 of Middlebury and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, four wheeling, camping, gardening, tooling around the roads, being a people person and spending time with friends and family.
Marvin is survived by his children, Sharlena Karen Payne of Cornwall, Terri L. Metcalf and husband Neil of Addison, Kevin J. Payne and wife Lisa of Shoreham and Traci Payne, of Cornwall; his siblings, Dolores Dilloway and husband David of Burlington, Cheryl Fraley and husband Dean of Bozeman, MT and Gary Payne and wife Cristina of Bridport; his fourteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; his former wife Jean Payne, of Middlebury and his companion Nancy Kemp of Cornwall.
He was predeceased by his parents, by his brother Gerald Payne and a grandson who died while on active duty in the United States Navy, Evan Michael Payne.
A memorial service will be held on Friday October 4, 2013 at 2 P.M. at the Bridport Congregational church. The Rev. Stephen Payne Pastor of the Addison Baptist Church will officiate.
Burial will follow in Bridport Central Cemetery and a reception will follow at the vestry hall.
