Middlebury- Marion N. Barnett, 101, died August 26, 2011 at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation. Born in Middlebury October 31, 1909, she was the daughter of Edward S. and Bertha May (Fales) Barnett. Marion graduated from Milford, CT High School, class of 1927 and Grace Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1931. Marion did post graduate studies in operating room techniques. She was employed at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London, CT, later at Norwalk General Hospital and then returned to Grace Hospital and became Assistant Director of Nurses. She remained there after the merger of hospitals , serving as assistant director , what is now the Yale-New Haven Hospital from where she retired on Dec. 31, 1971. Marion enjoyed traveling in the U.S. Hawaii and Bermuda. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and needlepoint embroidery. She is survived by cousins, Barbara Wells, Nancy Stickney, Susan Goulet, Priscilla Garrand and Kathryn McCormick. A graveside service is planned for Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 11 AM at Prospect Cemetery, East Middlebury with Rev. Elisabeth Smith, pastor, Middlebury United Methodist Church, officiating.
