Margaret D. Hayes, 89, passed away Monday morning July 14, 2014 at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Born April 24, 1925 in Monkton, she was the daughter of the late H. Claude and Louise A. (LaFlam) Devoid.
Margaret attended local school in Salisbury and was a graduate of Middlebury High School class of 1945.
She was a seamstress for Van Raalte and later worked in the hot lunch programs at Middlebury Elementary and High Schools. Margaret enjoyed reading, crafting and gardening. She was a member of the Middlebury Home Dem, Russ Scholes Senior Center and St. Marys Catholic Church and Choir.
She married Ralph S. Hayes Sr. August 11, 1947.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Louise Patterson and husband Robert ; her son Ralph S. Hayes Jr. all of Middlebury; by a sister Barbara LaDuc of Orwell; three grandchildren and her three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Ralph S. Hayes Sr. who died July 16, 1994, by her son, Richard E. Hayes who died March 9, 2001 by her brothers, George and William Devoid and her sister June Carleton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday July 19, 2014 at 11 :30 A.M. at St. Marys Catholic Church Middlebury, with the Rev. William R. Beaudin as the celebrant.
Burial will follow in West Side Cemetery, Salisbury.
Visiting hours for family and friends will be held on Friday July 18, 2014 from 5-7 P.M. at the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 South Main Street, Middlebury.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, 30 Porter Drive, Middlebury, VT 05753.
