Obituary

EAST MIDDLEBURY Margaret R. Peg Dragon, 90, passed away peacefully on Sept. 14, 2012, at her home in East Middlebury after a long illness. She was born in Ripton on Aug. 10, 1922, to Milo W. and Jennie (Benedict) Masterson. Growing up, she lived in Ripton, East Middlebury and Salisbury. She married Ralph E. Mike Dragon on Dec. 12, 1944, in Hubbardton. After living briefly in Connecticut during World War II to work in a war factory, they came back to Vermont and settled in East Middlebury. They had six children. Her family says she loved to sew and cook. She also loved music and played seven instruments by ear. They say she enjoyed writing songs and poetry and tending her many houseplants and porch plants. She made many stuffed animals and dolls for her grandchildren and numerous Care Bears and Cabbage Patch Kids when they became popular in the 1980s and were hard for people to find in stores. Survivors include her daughters, Rhonda (Leon) Whitehead of Brookneal, Va., Rhoda (Barry) Dragon of East Middlebury and Tammy (Mark) Nadeau of East Middlebury; and her sons, Ralph (Lynn), Danny and Randy (Mary), all of East Middlebury. Thirteen grandchildren and seven great-children also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years and all five of her siblings. Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in East Middlebury on Sept. 17. A private burial was held at Prospect Cemetery immediately following. Memorial gifts may be made to Addison County Home Health & Hospice, PO Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.
