Linda Guillette Lass passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine surrounded by her family. Linda was born May 12, 1946 in Newport, VT the daughter of Irene (Lahar) and Lucien Guillette.
She spent her early years in Derby and later when her family moved to Connecticut, she spent her school years in Terryville, Connecticut. It was during her years at Terryville High School that Linda met John Lass. She asked him to a Sadie Hawkins dance and theyve been together ever since. After high school she attended Sacred Heart School and graduated as a Radiology Technician, a job she worked at for the next few years. In 1967 Linda and John were married in Terryville, Connecticut. The following year Linda and John welcomed their first child, a son named Michael. After six short months, Michael passed away. The next year they welcomed a daughter, Michelle, and two years after that, another daughter, Laura. Once Linda began to have children she found she wanted to be home raising them. Linda never returned to Radiology. When her children began school, Linda took classes to learn bookkeeping, which was the job she held until retirement. Together, Linda and John were a big part of Mill Bridge Construction in Middlebury. John was president of the company and Linda was the bookkeeper. They lived together and worked together-many have wondered how they stayed married! Linda and John were the very best of friends. They had both been retired for a number of years and were enjoying their carefree life together.
Linda was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend. Everyone who met her enjoyed spending time with her. Linda loved her husband and children with all of her generous heart and she was happy to add a grandson and a son-in-law to the family. Linda was a great cook; she had a beautiful smile and the loudest sneezes! Linda loved gardening and her plants and her dear dog, Daisy. She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and being outside in the yard. Linda was an avid reader and enjoyed learning about historical events and faraway places. She was always reading a number of books. Linda especially loved traveling to Maine and she and John were on a short vacation when she fell ill. After a week at the Maine Medical Center, it was clear Linda would not recover, so with her loving family at her side, John kissed her goodnight one last time and Linda went to sleep.
She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, John Lass, of Shoreham, VT; a daughter, Michelle Lass, and her husband, Rob Curtis of Bristol, VT; a daughter, Laura Lass and her grandson, Jacob Galvin, of Middlebury; a brother-in-law, Frank Lass and his wife, Sioux, of Concord, New Hampshire; a sister-in-law, Helen Lass, of Bingham, Maine; a sister-in-law, Joann Toscano and her husband, James, of Bristol, Connecticut; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is predeceased by a son, Michael, her parents Irene and Lucien Guillette, and two brothers, Michael and James Guillette.
