Obituary

Laurette M. Dubois Salisbury Laurette M. Dubois, 86, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2006 at Shard Villa in Salisbury where she had been a resident for the past five years. She was a leap year child and was born in Bridport on February 29, 1920, the daughter of Odilon and Marie Louise (Lauzon) Quesnel. She was positioned exactly in the middle of a large and proud French-Canadian family and had five older and five younger siblings. She was born only a few months after her parents and older siblings had emigrated to the United States from Ontario, Canada. She grew up on her parents dairy farm in Bridport, received her education in local schools, and became a lifelong resident of Addison County. She was married in Shoreham on December 26, 1939, to Roger A. Dubois of Addison who predeceased her on March 29, 1992. After their marriage, she and her husband operated a dairy farm on shares in Addison and, in 1942, purchased their own dairy farm in Shoreham. Over the next 25 years, they improved and expanded their farm operations and, in 1963, were recognized as the Otter Creek Natural Resource Conservation Districts Conservation Farmer of the Year. She and her husband retired from dairy farming in 1967 and built a new home in Weybridge where they enjoyed life at a slower pace until his death in 1992. She continued to live in her Weybridge home until 2001 when she moved to Shard Villa, a beautiful assisted living facility, in Salisbury. While living in Bridport and Shoreham, she was an active member of St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Shoreham and a member of the Parish Alter Society. From 1967 until her death, she was a devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Middlebury. Laurette had many talents. For example, in addition to her family and farm responsibilities, she was an accomplished seamstress and quilter and also loved to crochet. She loved music and loved to sing and dance to the accompaniment of her favorite songs. While living in Weybridge, she and her husband joined the Small City Steppers Club and enjoyed square dancing. And, she loved a good story and enjoyed entertaining friends and relatives with her wide array of jokes and stories, most recently at Shard Villa where she was very happy. She is survived by her three sons, Harris and his wife, Rosemary, of Colchester, Henry and his wife, Cynthia, of Fairfax, VA, and Alexis and his wife, Saundra, of Swanton; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Leon, of Middlebury; two sisters, Corinne, of East Longmeadow, MA and Theresa, of Agawam, MA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was predeceased by two brothers, Real and Elie, and five sisters, Loretta, Marion, Melina, Laurencia, and Germaine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 4th at 11 AM in St. Mary Catholic Church in Middlebury by Reverend Justin Baker. Graveside committal services and burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, May 3rd from 6 to 8 PM, with the Catholic Daughters meeting to recite the rosary, at Sanderson Funeral Service, 117 S. Main St., Middlebury. For those who wish, her family requests that contributions in Laurettes memory be made to St. Marys Church, Capital Improvement Fund, 19 College St., Middlebury 05753, or Shard Villa Resident Activities Fund, 1177 Shard Villa Road, Salisbury 05769, or the Arthritis Foundation of Vermont, 257 S. Union St., Burlington, VT 05401.
