Obituary

Laura Marie Morrison Bradley, 87, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2015. She passed peacefully with her family at her side at Porter Healthcare. She went to be with her soul mate, Arthur who she was married to for 67 years. She was the loving mother of seven children, grandmother to numerous grandchildren, and great-grandmother to several great-grandchildren. She is survived by five of her children, son Richard and Sue of Shrewsbury, Pa, daughter Lauri and Bob Randall of Starksboro son David and Teri of Wauseon, Ohio, son Tim and Nancy of East Middlebury, and son Neil of Southport, NC. Her husband, Arthur predeceased her in May of 2014, her daughter Debbi in December 2014 and her son Joe in December 2013. Marie attended New Haven elementary and High School. Shortly after graduating from high school, she married Art and stayed home to raise her children. Both parents instilled in their children the virtues of kindness, empathy, honesty, faithfulness, and the love of God, and to love and enjoy life. They would take us to Sunday Mass every week and we would sit in the very first pew, all nine of us. We all made our First Communion and Confirmation at St. Marys Church in Middlebury. Religion was a big part of our family and especially for Marie, who served as an usher for years and was a 50+ year member of St. Marys Parish. When daughter, Lauri, was old enough to care for her four younger brothers, Marie went to work at the North 40 on Lake Dunmore in Salisbury, where she was a cook. She then started working at the Porter Medical Center, where she worked in the kitchen and took care of preparing menus and counseling diabetic patients. This training prepared her for taking care of Art when he developed diabetes. She prepared his diet and took care of his blood sugars. She was a true caregiver all her life. Marie and Art loved to travel and took trips to North Carolina, Arizona, and California. When they went to Shreveport, La, they went to the Grand Ole Opry and Marie talked about this event for years. They always took the bus because of their fear of flying, but these trips meant so much to them. Marie love to make the holidays special for her family. Even though we had little money in the early days, Christmas was always a magical day. We would have picnics and a big feast for Thanksgiving. We went to the band concert in Bristol and to $1.00 night at the drive-in. Specials treats were going to the A&W for root beer and swimming in the New Haven River. Marie will be remembered most for her taking good care of her family and everyone she met. She had a very kind heart and a true love of life. She would talk with her children weekly to catch up on their lives and share in their struggles and joys. She was always there when we needed her support and love. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Maries family would especially like to thank the staff at Helen Porter Healthcare for their loving care of our mother. She was beloved by both nurses and patients. They took exemplary care of her so her life there was happy and comfortable. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home in Middlebury, Friday, June 26 from 5-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Marys Catholic Church in Middlebury on Saturday, June 27 at 10 am. Burial will follow in Weybridge Cemetery. There will be a gathering of friends and family at the Weybridge School afterwards. Contributions in Maries memory can be made to St. Marys Parish. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home. Condolences can be made online at www.sandersonfuneralservice.com
