SHELBURNE Katherine Kate W. Chase, 93, of Shelburne passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 9, 2011.
Kate was born on April 1, 1917 in Duluth, Minnesota, the daughter of Raymond J. and Nannie (McCormic) Willcuts. She was raised in Superior, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Superior in 1939. She then worked in Chicago where she met Leslie H. Chase. They were married on April 15, 1946 at which time they moved to Sea Cliff, New York where they raised their two daughters. Kate moved to Middlebury, Vermont in 2000 to be closer to her daughters and then to Wake Robin in Shelburne, Vermont in 2003.
Kate was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Sea Cliff, and an active volunteer over the years in the Home Bureau of Nassau County, North Shore University Hospital at Glen Cove Auxiliary, Round Robin and Elderly Service. She was an accomplished seamstress, meticulous in all that she created. She enjoyed playing bridge and other games with friends and family.
Kate was predeceased by her husband, Leslie H. Chase, and her sister, Mildred G. Willcuts. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Starr and her husband Gary of Weybridge, Vermont, and their children, Heather Martone and husband Richard of Centerville, Massachusetts, and Ryan Starr and wife Samantha of Raleigh, North Carolina; her daughter Nancy Rouisse of South Burlington, Vermont and her son, Christopher Rouisse and wife Sakshi of Fort Mill, South Carolina; and great-grandchildren Caroline and William Martone and Logan and Gavin Starr.
The family will hold a private celebration of Kates life at a future date.
