Obituary

Joseph S. Tomaino 92, died Thursday afternoon July 26, 2012 upon arrival at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury. He was born May 4, 1920 in Westfield, PA. the son of the Late V. James and Mary (Warmus) Tomaino. Joseph was a 1939 graduate of Westfield high School and entered the United States Army after graduation and served during World War II and also the Korean Conflict attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. After the war Joe returned home and furthered his education attending college course at night for interior design, starting his own business which he operated for over fifty years, Tomainos Interior Decor in Mt. Holly, N.J., Joseph was a member of the First Baptist Church, of Fair Haven; he enjoyed puttering around, buying antique furniture, gardening, mowing his lawn and up keep on his property. He was always on his tractor everywhere he went. Survivors include his wife Constance (Clow) Tomaino, who he married July 10, 1942 in Westfield, PA., by his children, James R. Tomaino and his wife Cindy, of Shoreham, Rosan Tomaino Hunter and her husband Robert, of Colonial Beach, VA., Tim Tomaino and his wife Erin, of Cherry Hill, N.J., by his grandchildren, Katrina Gourley, of Los Angeles, CA., Dan Tomaino, of Burlington, Andrew and Alex Kairis, of N.J., Jon & Ted Gourley of N.J. and John and James Talaga, of Woodstock, CT. By his great-grandchildren, Zach and Josh Tomaino, of Cherry Hill, N.J. and Leah Talaga, of Woodstock, CT., by numerous nieces and nephews, also by his special friends and care givers, Holly Savage, Sandy and Bob Garthaffner, Michelle Phillips and Deb Willey. He was predeceased by his two daughters, Tina Tomaino Gourley and Bonnie Tomaino Kairis, also by his brother, Michael Tomaino and his sister, Jeannette Cook. A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 4, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church, of Fair Haven, First Park Place, Fair Haven, VT, the Rev. Rob Smith will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Orwell First response at 604 Main Street, Orwell, VT 05760. Arrangements are under the direction of the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home.
