Joseph C. Doria, 86, died Tuesday afternoon October 2, 2007 at Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY after sustained injuries 7 weeks prior in an automobile Accident.
He was born August 24, 1921 in Winooski, VT the son of the late Leonard & Margaret (Ponessa) Doria.
Joseph was a veteran of the United Stated Army having served in the European Theatre, in which he received the Bronze Star.
He was a member of the American Legion Post # 27 of Middlebury, St. Marys Catholic Church, and he was a strong supporter of local sports in the Middlebury area.
He had a passion for horse racing.
Joseph together with his brothers, operated Dorias Market in Middlebury till 1964.He later worked for Middlebury College from the mid 1960s till the mid 1980s in various positions. After retirement he continued to work at the Ralph Myers golf course at Middlebury College, and at the Middlebury College Snow Bowl.
He is survived by his children, Harold Bucky Doria & his wife Jorene, of Ripton, David Doria & his wife, Judy, of Middlebury; Debbie Doria, of Westport, WA, also by his 7 grandchildren, his 1 great-grandchild, ; by numerous nieces & nephews ; cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Pete (Gerow) Doria and also by his two brothers, John & Ernie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday October 5, 2007 at 11 AM at St. Marys Catholic Church, the Rev. Justin Baker will officiate.
There will be no visitation hours.
Immediately following the service a reception will be held at the American Legion in Middlebury.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Joseph C. Doria Memorial Fund @ Old Courthouse, Middlebury College at 5 Court St, Middlebury, VT 05753. In which a bench in Josephs memory will be placed.
