John (Jack) Aidan Rogers, 86, of Middlebury died peacefully at home on January 30th, 2017. He was born March 7th, 1930 in New York City, the son of Johanna (Duggan) and William Rogers.
Jack was a true raconteur, and loved to tell stories about his early years growing up Lynbrook and East Rockaway, NY with his brother Bill. All his grandparents emigrated from Ireland, and he was proud of the strong Irish traditions held in his family. Jack attended Canisius College in Buffalo, NY where he was a prominent member of the Commerce Club. He returned to New York to care for his ailing father, and graduated from New York University in 1952. After graduating, Jack joined the U.S. Army, where he served as a medic from 1953-1955. Upon leaving the service, he married Jean Haigh in 1956 and moved to Sudbury, VT in 1965, they later divorced. Jack worked in variety of jobs including as a salesman for Marlin Firearms and Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, and as a teacher at Middlebury Union High School.
Jack was a lifelong fan of the New York Giants and Civil War aficionado. He loved to play cards, especially bridge and poker, and would often tell stories of the late nights spent playing poker with his fellow Commerce Club members at Canisius. He enjoyed Dixieland Jazz, Broadway Musicals (especially Rodgers & Hammerstein), and classic Hollywood movies.
He was an ardent supporter of Bernie Sanders.
Jack is survived by his daughter and son in law, Nancy and Mike Harvey, of Rochester; granddaughter Molly and her husband Darren Kerr, of Shoreham; great grandson Corbin Kerr; granddaughter Megan and her fianc John Fabbioli, of Barre; great grandson Hunter Fabbioli; daughter Jackie Rogers and her partner, Tom Moye, of Middlesex; grandson Skylar Lobdell, of Craftsbury; and nieces and nephews who reside in CT.
He was pre-deceased by his parents and brother and sister-in-law, William and Lois Rogers.
