John Robinson Provoncha 67, of New Haven, Vt passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 13, 2017 at UVM Medical Center. He was born on August 27, 1950 in Middlebury, VT to Harold and Stella (Shackett) Provoncha. John was a graduate of Middlebury Union High School class of 1968, and was also a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America class of 1971. He was head chef at many Addison county restaurants including the Dog Team Tavern. After leaving the restaurant business he was employed by Primerica until his passing. John was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the outdoors. He was a member of the Middlebury College zamboni crew and operated the scoreboard at hockey games for over twenty years. John was also a member of the college and high school chain gangs for football. John loved to attend Middlebury College and High School sports. In his spare time he loved to be with his family and his two new grandkids Paislee and Harrison. John is survived by two sons Israel Provoncha and wife Kayla of Tunbridge, Jared Provoncha and wife Sarah of Middlebury, and two grandchildren Paislee and Harrison. He is also survived by the mother of his sons Carlene Nelson of Vergennes, brothers Tom of Middlebury and BJ of Florida as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is survived by a special cousin Becky Shackett who had taken John in and took care of him in his final year of life. John was predeceased by both of his Parents and a sister Patsy. Calling hours will be held on Thursday September 21, 2017 from 4-7Pm at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home located at 117 South Main Street, Middlebury. A celebration of Johns life will be held at a later date.
