Obituary

BOMOSEEN- Joan A. Pratt-Colm, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully Monday, January 2, 2012 at her home on Lake Bomoseen. Born in Clarendon, February 1, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Nina (Balch) Rabtoy. Joan earned her Bachelor of Sciences degree from Castleton State College and then taught in one room schools in Ira and Tinmouth. Later she taught in special education and daycare at the Fair Haven Union High School. She enjoyed the hobbies of ceramics, sewing, oil painting, photography, and traveling with her husband and family. She and her husband particularly enjoyed the Basin Harbor Bluegrass Festival in Brandon each year. Surviving family members include her husband, Claus H.Colm of Bomoseen; her children, Zachary Pratt, PHD and his wife Kim of Elko, NV, Carlton Pratt and his wife Debbie of Fair Haven, Avis Sawyer and her partner, Robert Cyrul, Jr. of Castleton, Greg Pratt of Castleton, and Pam Eberlein and her husband Victor of FL.; grandchildren Sara Pratt, Alethea Pratt, Liza Pratt;great grandchildren; her brothers, Roy Stanley Rabtoy of Perkinsville, and Calvin Rabtoy of Clarendon and FL.; sister-in-law Patricia Pratt of CA; cousins, Donna and Rhodes Wyman of Forrestdale. Joan was predeceased by her first husband, Arthur Pratt; granddaughter, Ariana; her sister, Gertrude Spaulding; her brothers, Francis, Leonard, and Chauncey Rabtoy; and cousin Nina Flood. In her last years, she was comforted by the exceptional care of her husband and Bayada Home Nursing. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Castleton Federated Church, 504 Main St. Castleton with the Rev. Dr. Steven E. Berry, Associate Pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at East Clarendon Cemetery. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to Vermont Alzheimers Association, 300 Cornerstone Drive, Suite 128, Williston, VT 05495.
