East Middlebury, Jessie Low Fowler
Jessie Low Fowler, 84, passed away from this life surrounded by her family and holding the hand of her husband, Richard, at their home in Bristol, May 9, 2006.
Jessie was born August 9, 1921 in Quincy, Mass. Of parents James & Jesse (Davidson) Low of Scotland and Massachusetts.
She worked during World War II as a civilian forklift operator loading munitions for the war effort in Massachusetts.
She met her lifetime love and husband, Richard, through her brothers and won him over with a plate of burned cookies. They were inseparable during their 57 years of marriage, together to the end.
They were married Sept. 26, 1949, in Stoughton, Mass., and moved soon to Randolph, where they began their family. In Randolph, Jessie worked at Strongs Market and Belmains Department Store as a store clerk. She work as a cashier with the movie projectionist husband Richard at the Playhouse Theater in Randolph for many years until moving the family over the mountain to Middlebury in 1965.
Jessie worked for many years in the late 1970s as a special deputy in the Addison County Sheriffs Department providing courtroom security for the Addison County Superior Court in Middlebury. They lived on Maple Court in East Middlebury from 1965 to 2000, when failing health no longer allowed them to live by themselves. They moved to Orwell to the loving care of their daughter, Janet and her husband, Ronald Bessette.
In January 2006, they moved to Bristol to the residence of Robin Gorton for extended care.
Jessie was mother of three children, daughter, Janet Bessette Fowler and her husband Ronald, of Orwell; twin sons, Kenneth who predeceased her and Duane Fowler and his wife Cathy of East Middlebury, grandchildren, Kelly Bessette, of Mechanicville, NY and Keri Ashcroft and her husband, Larry, of Greenwich, NY, Hope Fowler, of East Middlebury, and Duncan Fowler also of East Middlebury.
In addition Jessie was predeceased by brothers, James & David Low.
Friends may call Saturday May 13, 2006 from 5-7 PM at Sanderson Funeral Service, 117 South Main Street Middlebury. A Funeral Service will be held Sunday May 14, 2006 @ 12:30 PM at the Middlebury Congregational Church.
