Jean Easton McEdward died peacefully in her home Friday, April 23rd surrounded by her loving family after a valiant battle with cancer.
Jean was born in Shoreham, Vermont on November 20th, 1926 to Russell and Florence (Fish) Easton. She was the youngest of five children. She graduated from Shoreham High school in 1944 and from University of Vermont with a BA and RN in 1949. After graduation, she worked at NY Cornell Medical Center and Casper Hospital in Casper, Wyoming.
In 1953, she married Perry McEdward, and moved to Staten Island while he was in the Merchant Marines, When she became pregnant with her second child, they moved back to Vermont and raised their family there. She loved being a stay at home Mom. They enjoyed their home in Middlebury and spent many wonderful times up in Ripton at their camp, swimming in the clear pond and enjoying time with family.
Jean enjoyed being outside and she and family took many long distance bike trips with her husband driving the sag wagon and making sure everyone arrived safely. She enjoyed playing tennis and hiking. National Parks were a favorite destination and the whole family celebrated when she became eligible for a Golden Age Pass. With her children, she travelled to England, Scotland, New Zealand, France, Switzerland and travelled frequently to Hawaii visiting all of the islands.
It was an annual tradition to take a trip to the New Hampshire coast to visit family in the area, walk on the beach, swim in the frigid water and eat as much lobster as she could fit in. Lobster Stew was the ultimate treat for her.
She is survived by her four children; Jill McEdward of Sherwood, Oregon, Karen Leigh Skizewski of Healdsburg, California, Holly McEdward of Torrington, Vermont and Allen McEdward of Wolcott, Vermont. She was blessed by seven grandchildren: Eric and Doug Rhynhart, Kira and Dawn McEdward Matsuoka and James, Jessie and Jennifer Skizewski. Also enriching her life were many special nieces and nephews that rounded out her loving family.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday April 27, 2010 at 1 Pm at the Salisbury Congregational Church. The Rev. John Grivetti & the Rev. Christiana Del Piero will officiate.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family
It is her request that we thank her so very special friends who have laughed with her, loved her and helped her bear the challenges of cancer so well. The family thanks these friends and family. We want to especially recognize the Addison County Home Health and Hospice who walked us all through each and every step, prepared and unafraid knowing Mom was where she wanted to be. She was always surrounded by so much love and the best possible care. If anyone would care to make a donation in her name, Addison County Home Health and Hospice would be the perfect recipient.
