Janice Lillian (Clark) Neilson 63 passed away on Friday May 22, 2009 after a short illness at Helen Porter Nursing Home, in Middlebury.
Janice was born on July 31, 1945 at Eugene Leland Memorial Hospital in Riverdale, MD. The only child of the late Neri A. and Ruth (Yost) Clark. She grew up in Greenbelt, MD, and then Silver Spring, MD, and was a graduate of Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring, MD in June 1963.
She married William E. Neilson, Jr. in June 1965, and was divorced in the fall of 1969.
She was a civilian employee at Fort George G. Meade, MD for over 11 years; then at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD. In 1978 she and her son Daniel moved with her retiring parents to New Haven, VT.
Janice was employed at Middlebury College in the Office of President, then with the Superintendent of Schools at Addison Central Supervisory Union. In 1980 Janice returned to government work with the Internal Revenue Service for the Department of Immigration and Naturalization Service and as a Resource Management Specialist, then she took early retirement in 1997 when the IRS was downsizing their Burlington office.
She is survived by her son Daniel D. Neilson and her granddaughter Elizabeth whom she was a foster mother to for several years. Janice was predeceased by a granddaughter Casey Lynn Fitzsimmons.
Calling hours will be at Sanderson- Ducharme Funeral Home 117 South Main St. Monday May 25 from 4 to 6 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday May 26 St. Marys Catholic Church in Middlebury. The Rev. Skip Baltz will be the celebrant.
Internment will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
