MIDDLEBURY-James Weldon , age 86, died on September 24, 2011, at his home in Middlebury surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 4, 1925, in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Thomas and Nora (Barry) Weldon. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1943. He was an avid reader and was a self educated man. He loved history and working with this hands. He and his wife traveled extensively to Europe especially enjoying his trip to Ireland, home of his ancestors. He held many jobs in his life time exceeding at all and learning from each. While living on Long Island, New York, he was manager for Admiral TV then later owned his own TV & appliance repair business which he sold prior to moving to Middlebury, Vermont, a place both he and his wife chose to settle in their retirement years but instead chose to start another business called All Appliance & TV. He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Father Daley, 1743 Assembly, Middlebury, VT, and a lector at St. Marys Church, Middlebury.
On December 19, 1943, he married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Stricher. They were married for 67 years. Together they have 6 children, Brian and his wife, Marilyn, of Holtsville, NY, Richard and his wife, Karen, of Brandon, VT, John of Holbrook, NY, Ronald and his fiance, Donna, of Medford, NY, Priscilla Weldon Hurteau and her husband, Rick, of Middlebury, VT, and Colleen Weldon Davis of Brandon, VT. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren. Brian Weldon, Jr, Timothy Weldon, Jeanette Weldon DiPaola, James Weldon, Richard Weldon II, Sara Weldon, John Weldon Jr, Kevin Weldon, Ronald Weldon Jr, Michael Weldon, James Hurteau, Patrick Hurteau (also his godchild), Caitlin Hurteau and Jessica Davis. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Margaret Weldon Caulfield and Jeanne Weldon Gentile both of NJ. He is survived by 14 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Peter, William, John, and David Weldon, and sisters May Carlson, Eleanor Capps, Anne Garille and infant sister, Virginia. Jim lived a rich and full life. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and wit, his unending knowledge and devotion to his family. His grandchildren have fond memories of spending summers with Popie in Vermont or being cheered on at sporting events or dance recitals.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday September 28, 2011 from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. at Sanderson Funeral Home, located at 117 South Main Street, Middlebury.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday September 29, 2011 at 11 :30 A.M. at St. Marys Catholic Church. The Rev. William R. Beaudin as celebrant.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home.
