Illean C. Fortin, 92, died Friday, May 16, 2014 at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.
Born December 23, 1921 in New Haven the daughter of the late Phillip and Annette (Sharrow) Cyr.
She was a graduate of Beeman Academy class of 1939. Illean worked for 30 years at Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield, VT. She was a member of the Parish Council in Chester, VT, along with the Ladies club and Book club in Chester. She married Jean Fortin in September 1967. They lived in Connecticut for several years before they retired. Together they enjoyed traveling and settled in Florida where Illean spent seventeen years before returning to Middlebury to be near her family.
She is survived by her sister Helen Dupoise, her brother in-law Francis Dupoise, sister in-law Elizabeth (Betty) Cyr and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Jean, her sister Marion Grace and her husband Leonard, her brother Wilbur (Mike) Cyr and his wife Mabel and her brother Louis (Pat) Cyr.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 11 A.M. at St. Marys Catholic Church, with Msgr. John McDermott as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Peter's Cemetery in Vergennes.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Marys Catholic Church at 326 College Street, Middlebury, VT 05753 or to the Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center Activities Fund at 30 Porter Drive, Middlebury, VT 05753, in appreciation of the wonderful and compassionate care they provided to Illean during the last five years of her life.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home.
